Selektive Zusammenfassung von Kamil, Michael; Langer, Judith; Shanahan, Timothy 1985: Understanding Reading and Writing Research. Boston, London usw.
Unterscheidung Grundlagenforschung/angewandte Forschung:
basic research
Basic research is the attempt to EXPLAIN some part of the events in the world around us. It endeavors to develop knowledge that is consistent with or leads to a theory. At any given time, basic research may have little or no applicability to specific situations beyond those in the immediate research area.. (2)
d.h.: Grundlagenforschung kann Dinge erklären, nicht aber zwangsläufig zu praktisch anwendbaren Schlussfolgerungen führen.
Obviously, the closer a theory comes to being complete, the more readily we can apply it to large segments of the real world. (2)
applied research
Applied research involves the use of basic research findings or theory to solve specific, real-world problems. Kerlinger (1977) gives the following example:Supppose a theory of learning has been found to be empirically valid, and rather successfully explains the learning of concepts ... It may or may not have iimplications for teaching concepts to children ... A teaching expert now devises a method of teaching concepts based on the theory. He is an enigneer, a technologist ... [H]e may test the efficacy of his method using techniques devised by scientists. His research is applied research which is in this case inspired by the original basic research.(2f)
